Well, it wasn’t all that ugly — just plainer than a bowl of boiled oats!
I am not a graphic designer. I do not even pretend to be a graphic designer (though I do think that Eiko Okura’s site looks pretty nice; Jon Husband’s, too); but I do know a few and they’re pretty nice people withal.
But what I do do is site development – working with a designer to create an overall structure for the site, organizing the information on a site for ease of use, creating simple, coherent navigation, and optimizing pages for Google and other search engines.
And yes, I have added search engine optimization to my list
I’ve created several large projects using a combination of MySQL with PHP (and perl) – or LAMP projects, along with a number of smaller projects using those technologies and others.
The content management system (CMS) that runs this site is one of those projects — evolved now over several years of development. Even five years ago Stephanie Two Eagles (then director of the Colorado Film Commission) called it “wonderfully simple” — and it’s even more so now!
