What is "Website Development"?

It’s an easy thing (relatively speaking) to turn to a graphic template in a program like Dreamweaver or Frontpage and create a few web pages. If you’ve only got a page or two that will actually serve you pretty well. But if you’re trying to serve up a good bit of information about your business or service then you’ll do better to give some thought to how to organize that information, how best to allow a visitor to navigate through the pages and how to help Google (the 500 pound gorilla, which is why it gets mentioned) index your site.

And that’s what website development is all about.

Whether you’re using a bought template or depending upon a graphic designer, a website is going to serve you best with a bit (or a lot) of planning. I can help you organize the information you want to present, delivering the content to the user in ways they’ll appreciate, and assist Google et al in learning what your site is all about.

What Google Wants (SEO)

Google wants to know what your website is about.

Really, that’s about it. Google’s purpose is to help internet users find the information that they’re after — if that information is on your site then Google want’s to know it. What I can help you do is present the information on your site in a way that helps Google understands it.

It’s not a trick — my SEO techniques are straightforward and are not likely to earn the ire of the search engine administrators. My SEO methods basically say “here is what this page is about” and then proves it, which is all the search engines really want.

There are a lot of SEO services out there that can guarantee results because they use ‘tricks’ ( Doorway pages, hidden text, extra ‘Title’ tags, etc.) that the search engine engineers eventually figure out and cancel out. These kinds of services require constant attention and usually have a high monthly cost.

My technique is a one-time initial optimization with a couple of ‘tweaks’ during the first year. After that – if you follow my instructions in any changes made to a site – it’s pretty much self-supporting.
